David was a Lt. Colonel in Blythe's Mississippi Infantry Regiment, CSA. This Regiment later became, after David Herron's death, a part of the 44th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, CSA. David Herron was shot from his horse and died on the Shiloh Battlefield on Sunday, 6 April 1862. His Body Servant, Spencer, brought his body home to Coffeeville where he is buried in the Herron Family Lot in Coffeeville, Yalobusha Co., Mississippi
