David enlisted Aug 5, 1863 in 1st Reg't of Ala. Cavalry, organization changed to 11th Reg't Ala Cav. He was
captured at Selma, Alabama by the yankees and taken to a Federal prison in Nashville because he refused to take the loyalty oath. After the war was over, he finally took the oath and was released June 5, 1865.
His discription on his military record was: Complexion, Fair;Hair-light; Eyes-blue; Height- 6ft. 3 inches tall. He was 42 years old with five kids and one on the way when he joined up
